FAITH CHURCH - USHERS AND GREETERS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Greeters: Please remain at the main entrance to the church to greet visitors as well as members. Please shake hands with the visitors and make them feel welcome. During warmer weather, greeters are encouraged to greet people outside under the portico by the main door entrance.
Ushers and Greeters: Please do not hold long conversations with anyone or talking amongst yourselves.
We want to encourage an environment on Sunday mornings where each person who enters our church is welcomed by the greeters.
Ushers: Please take a moment to review the bulletin and be aware of what is going on during the services, as Pastors and/or staff may ask for your assistance at any time.
Attendance should be taken at the beginning of the sermon. Please use the “Attendance Count Sheet” for each service and then take it to the church
office.
Collecting the Offering: All ushers should be in the narthex when it is time to collect the offering. Please wait until AFTER the offertory music has begun before walking forward to begin collecting the offering. When you reach the front of the church, the two front ushers are to hold their positions in
the center aisle and the two ushers behind are to step forward to the outside positions. The center ushers are to take all of the collection plates and each is to turn 90 degrees (away from the center) and give one plate to the side usher. You will then start down the aisles to collect the offering. WATCH ONE ANOTHER AND TRY FOR ALL FOUR OF YOU TO WORK IN OR NEAR THE SAME ROW AT THE SAME TIME. When the collection is complete and you are sorting Prayer Requests from the offering, please do not stand by the center doors until you are ready to bring the offering up to the altar.
When the service is over, all the ushers are to remove bulletins and any other items that may have been left in the pews or on the floor. This should be done after every service.
On Communion Sunday, instructions may be given to you BEFORE the service. If the railing is to be used, it should be in place BEFORE the service begins,
as well as the cushions. If you have any questions, are confused about the style of communion, or how it is to be served please check with the Pastor or Worship Director prior to the beginning of the service.
After the service on Communion Sunday, please remove all the communion cups in the pews and in the communion rail.
In case of an emergency, ushers are to know where all emergency items are. The Fire Extinguisher, Defibrillator and First Aid Kit are located on the
all by the water fountain, between the two restrooms.
Youth Ushers: Please stay for the entire service OR you will NOT get credit for service hours. Also, when the service is over, please help the other ushers remove any bulletins and anything else that may have
been left in the pews or on the floor. This should be done after every service. When Communion is served, please help remove the communion cups in the pews, as well as in the communion rail.
Thank you for helping us
serve the Lord. We feel it is an honor
rather than a duty.
